Google Distributes Places Decals With NFC For Nexus S Phones

Google will be kicking off several marketing initiatives for its Hotpot and Places location-based services. The program will focus on Portland, Oregon, and provide Places kits to businesses. These kits include marketing materials to help businesses improve their online presence and also a “Recommended on Google” decal for their windows. The decals aren’t just simple stickers, though, as they integrate Near Field Communications (NFC) technology, definitely something that is geared specifically for Google’s upcoming Nexus S phone that features NFC technology too. Once everything is in place, NFC-equipped devices will be able to touch their phones to the sticker to bring up additional information about the business. Marketing activities will include a promotion with Voodoo Doughnut that allows folks to stop by on Saturday 10am for a special treat. Google is also encouraging users to rate businesses and the top five raters will win dinner for 10 at any restaurant in Portland. Will these stickers provide you with an extra initiative to purchase the Nexus S?
